Two different Mitsubishis

Mitsubishi Electric or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries?

It's a common mix-up: "Mitsubishi" air conditioners are made by two separate companies that have been independent since 1921. They share the name and the three-diamond heritage, but the equipment, controllers and parts are different. We service both — so whichever one you have, you're in the right place. Check the badge on the indoor unit or the data plate if you're not sure, and tell us when you call.

Mitsubishi Electric

Mitsubishi Electric

The maker of the Mr Slim split and ducted range and City Multi commercial VRF. Common in homes, offices and shops across Sydney.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

Sold in Australia by MHIAA — split systems, ducted and commercial VRF. A separate company with its own controllers and spare parts.

Mitsubishi repairs & service

Do you repair Mitsubishi air conditioning?

Yes — we repair and service both Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries air conditioning across Sydney, for homes, offices, shops and venues. We're an independent ARC-licensed repairer; we are not an authorised agent of either company unless expressly stated.

From a Mr Slim or MHIAA wall split that's stopped cooling to a City Multi or commercial VRF system throwing a controller fault, we diagnose to the cause rather than swapping boards on a guess. We read the controller, confirm the fault and fit the right parts for your unit. Where a genuine part is on long back-order, we'll offer a quality manufacturer-approved equivalent and tell you exactly what we're using — your call.

Common Mitsubishi faults

Common Mitsubishi air conditioning faults we fix

If you're seeing any of these — on a Mitsubishi Electric or a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries unit — book a check before the next hot spell. Most are repairable, often same-day where we can.

Not cooling or blowing warm

Often low refrigerant from a leak, a dirty coil or a sensor fault. We find the cause first, then recharge to spec.

Fault code on the controller

The controller or unit shows an error code or LED flash pattern. Mitsubishi Electric and Heavy Industries use different code systems — the same code can mean different things — so we identify the maker and model first, read it on-site, and fix the cause, not just reset it.

Inverter / PCB faults

The unit trips, restarts or won't start — frequently an inverter board, capacitor or fan-motor issue we diagnose to the part.

Leaking water indoors

A blocked condensate drain or a failed drain pump pooling under a cassette or ducted head. We clear it and check the fall.

Noise or poor airflow

Rattling, buzzing or weak airflow — usually a fan motor, bearing or a filter and coil overdue for a clean.

Won't restart straight away

Most splits have a built-in ~3-minute restart delay that protects the compressor — that's normal, not a fault. If it still won't cool after a few minutes, book a check.

Parts & service

Mitsubishi spare parts & service in Sydney

We source and fit the right spare parts for your Mitsubishi — PCBs, thermistors, drain pumps, fan motors, controllers and filters — backed by a 12-month parts warranty. Tell us whether it's a Mitsubishi Electric or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries unit and the model so we bring the correct parts. Most current Mitsubishi splits — Mr Slim and MHIAA — run on R32 refrigerant, which by law only an ARC-licensed technician can handle and recover; that's us (ARC L057415).

An air conditioner should be serviced about once a year to keep airflow strong, power bills down and breakdowns rare — and many warranties require annual maintenance by a licensed contractor to stay valid. One useful thing to know: most modern split systems have a built-in ~3-minute delay before the compressor restarts after it stops, which protects the compressor and is completely normal.

What will it cost? We diagnose the fault first and quote upfront — you approve the price before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

"This is the second time that we have used this company… an upgrade of our undercounter bar refrigeration system and… a service of our 2 air conditioning systems. On both occasions we have found Chris's team to have been prompt, professional and efficient for a reasonable price. They are on my preferred company to use for any refrigeration or air con matters…"

"…called ahead… on time, professional, they removed the old air con and cleaned up after themselves, taking all the rubbish away. They installed the new Air con, tested it and showed us how to operate…"

FAQ

Mitsubishi service questions

Do you repair Mitsubishi air conditioning?
Yes — we repair and service both Mitsubishi Electric (Mr Slim splits and ducted, plus City Multi VRF) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHIAA) air conditioning across Sydney. We diagnose the real fault, quote upfront and fit the right spare parts. Tell us the model on the data plate and any error code shown and we'll confirm before booking.
Mitsubishi Electric or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries — how do I know which I have?
They're two separate companies, and we service both — but the models, controllers and parts differ, so it helps to know which is which. Look at the badge on the indoor unit or the data plate: it will say "Mitsubishi Electric" or "Mitsubishi Heavy Industries" (often sold as MHIAA). Not sure? Send us a photo of the badge and the model number and we'll tell you and bring the right parts.
Do you stock Mitsubishi spare parts?
We source and fit the correct spare parts for your unit — PCBs, thermistors, drain pumps, fan motors, controllers and filters — backed by a 12-month parts warranty. If a genuine part is on long back-order, we'll offer a quality manufacturer-approved equivalent and tell you exactly which we're using. We never substitute without your approval.
How often should a Mitsubishi air conditioner be serviced?
About once a year for most systems — more often under heavy use. Many warranties also require annual maintenance by a licensed contractor to remain valid. A regular service keeps airflow strong, power bills down and breakdowns rare, and we can set you up on a schedule.
Are you an authorised Mitsubishi dealer?
No. Active Refrigeration & Air Conditioning is an independent ARC-licensed repairer. We service Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries equipment and fit the right parts, but we are not an authorised, accredited or factory-trained agent of either company. The Mitsubishi names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners and are shown here only to indicate the equipment we repair and maintain.
My Mitsubishi smells musty or mouldy when it runs — can you fix that?
Usually yes. A damp, musty smell is normally moisture and mould building up on the indoor coil and in the drain — often behind a clogged filter or a blocked condensate drain. A proper coil, blower and drain clean clears it, and an annual service stops it coming back. (A brand-new unit can have a faint factory coil-coating smell that fades on its own.)
In winter my outdoor unit ices up or keeps stopping to "defrost" — is it broken?
Often that's normal. In cold, damp weather a reverse-cycle Mitsubishi runs a defrost cycle — the fan pauses, the unit may steam and warm air stops for a few minutes while it clears frost off the outdoor coil, then heating resumes. Call us if you see a solid block of ice that never clears, it defrosts almost constantly and never settles into heating, or ice creeps up the copper pipes — those point to a real fault.
My Mitsubishi is showing a fault or error code — what should I do?
Note the exact code or LED flash pattern and tell us — and don't keep resetting it, because a reset clears the symptom, not the cause. Important: Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are separate companies with separate fault-code systems, so the same code can mean different things on each — tell us the maker (off the badge), the model and the exact code. Codes usually point to something like a thermistor, the indoor-to-outdoor communication line, a drain-up pump or the inverter board; we read it on-site and fix the real fault.

Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and their respective logos are trademarks of their respective owners — two separate companies. Active is an independent repair and service provider, not affiliated with or an authorised agent of Mitsubishi Electric or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHIAA) unless expressly stated.
